THE FABRICATOR REPORT v STREET

MATCH REPORT OF NCCC
V STREET CC
Matty Back in!
A strong line up for our
second friendly against Street
CC. Chris’s original plan had
Matt at one, Holly at two, Mandy
at three, his pet goldfish shoring
up the middle order at 5, 6 and 7
and then see how it went from
there. As it had been so dry it
was felt the goldfish would be
‘out of their depth’ and the two
Golding ladies were not in the
right frame of mind to play so we
filled in with other members of
the squad.
FFFFFFFFreezing!
It was bloody freezing as we
prepared the ground and went
through our warm up. Matt won
the toss and elected to bat on a
fresh looking strip being used for
the first time. Opening with
Midge, Matt was soon into his
stride punishing anything short,
wide or pitched up. Midge was
equally severe driving his first
two balls to the boundary. The
run-rate was over ten an over
and we looked set for a big score
with the outfield lightning quick.
Having reached a wonderful half
century, Matt miscued a pull to
be well caught for 50.
Midger Accelerates!
Jake was in at the pivotal
position of 3 and Midge chose
this moment to accelerate the
scoring with some brutal driving.
As with Matt, as soon as he had
reached his 50 he perished to
another fine catch on the mid-off
boundary. Chris (architect not
bog salesman) and Jake then
experienced some testing
bowling as the scoring eased off.
Both played themselves in before
unleashing textbook drives and
cuts. A century partnership
followed taking us towards 200
with plenty of wickets in
hand and a third half century as
Chris went to 62 before being
bowled bringing in Sam ‘Jabba’
Powell who actually defended his
first ball before going on his
usual rampage. Gabs struck a
wonderful on drive to get off the
mark but next ball was deceived
by the vagaries of the pitch to be
bowled for 4. A quick-fire 20 for
Sam before being bowled and
Jason lasted a short time before a
suicidal run left him short by 22
yards. Henry looked classy
taking us past 250 before Jake
was bowled for a top knock of
44. DTP worked the ball around
but we could not quite reach 300
as Henry was caught behind for
18 and Fred batted for his average
with a not out 1 and DTP
unbeaten on 11. 288 for 8 from
our 45 overs, a marvellous effort
with several top class innings and
partnerships.
Marvellous tea!
What a tea ! The only
comment that needs to be made
was that Matty was full by the
end!
Uncle Bulgaria!
With a little over a run a ball
required for victory we knew that
a tight opening spell would make
l i f e ha rd for St r e e t . Sam
generated serious pace but the
initial break through came from
Jason who again took a wicket
with his first ball. His ability to
strike with just one ball has lead
to his new nickname of Uncle
Bulgaria (Womble, get it? Google
it kids)! A further wicket for
Uncle B had us believing this
would be a stroll in the park but
some obdurate batting from the
opposition saw them keeping up
with the required scoring rate.
All Change!
Gabs and Fred were first
change with the former getting
into his stride early on and
hurrying their classy opener. Fred
took a wicket courtesy of a catch
to Sam and ended with the
pleasing figures of 1 for 40 off 7
overs. Toby manfully strove to
keep the run rate under control
and stoically stuck to his task
eventually snaring their best
batsman with Jake taking a well
judged catch in the deep. Top
figures of 1 for 25 from 5 overs, all
that Toby was allowed to bowl!
Henry and Matty came on just to
keep the game close with Matty
going for an eye-watering 20
from his first over of spin (????).
Good catches by Midge and
Henry and yet another stumping
by ‘lightning hands’ Franks
calmed our nerves and in the end
the chase petered out as we won
by 30 runs.
A top fielding effort in
bitingly cold conditions with
Matt doing his usual Bambi on
ice impressions!
546 runs scored on a brand
new strip and a wonderful work
out for North Curry! Let’s hope
next week’s inter Club game is
just as thrilling as Golding’s All
Start XI take on Golding’s All
Star 2nd XI!
